Jan 18: Work Day - Valentine Triptych
Work on your series of 3 5x7 cards for Valentine's day using the principles of design and your obstruction in Illustrator. The Valentines will connect visually and have a strong unifying theme. You need to come up with clever, school appropriate text. You need to own the copyright or change the imagery enough to claim fair use. You WILL do ROUGH hand sketches of your ideas and have them approved no later than EOC 1/16. You will be given an obstruction for this project. Watch Ted Talk for artistic Inspiration. Review Principles of Design. Brainstorm ideas. Dec. 11: Visual Resume / Infographic DUE END of CLASS TODAY!!! Finish up your resume - Remove any addresses. Save as a .pdf and turn in on class website. Fill out your rubric, then had over to a peer to review as well. We will present next class period.
Dec. 15: Review for Final. Fix Weebly sites and upload visual Resume to about me page of website. Sign up for DVC / CATEMA to get college credit for this course.
Dec. 5: Visual Resume / Infographic Have your rough draft complete, including a visual layout and written content, before starting to work in Illustrator. Start working in Illustrator. Bring in written content, choose fonts (1 font with 2-3 faces MAX), work on color palette (simple with maybe one pop of contrasting color), canvas size is 8.5w x 11h. Due Dec. 11 Design blog DesignMantic has released an infographic that focuses on the importance of visuals - various aspects of visual communication that designers should take note of, such as iconography, contrast, and hierarchy.

Assignment: Fair Use Collage
Create a new file at 8" x 8". "Cut out" (copyrighted) images from the web (advertisements) using mask in Illustrator or Layer mask in Photoshop. Mix the images together into a collage. You should rework and change the images to create a new, original work that can be called fair use. When you are finished, post your collage to your website on the Portfolio page. We will review and examine how well each collage fits the key points of fair use. Students will vote for the “best fair use collage” in class.
